ACDI MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE: A Start-Up Cooperative in the 1980’s, now the LARGEST COOPERATIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES

With just 26 members and 200k assets back is 1981, ACDI transformed into a large multipurpose cooperative in 2011. Their sole mission as they have started is to provide financial services to Philippine Air Force Personnel. And as a result of vast strategies and plans, their cooperative has expanded and increased into 279,724 members, 147 offices in 58 provinces and the NCR, 1,064 employees, 54.88B assets, revenue of 6.01B, and a net surplus of 2.16B as of 2023. ACDI is now the largest cooperative in the Philippines in terms of assets. 

In line with transforming HPP Coop to becoming one of the largest cooperatives in the country, continuous bench-marking and collaboration with model cooperatives are one of our strategies. A one-day study visit with ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative was organized last August 30, 2024 and was attended by our Chairperson, Ms. Annie Samson, and CEO, Mr. Jose Val Hilario, together with 20 committee members and staff of the coop.

HPP Coop was warmly welcomed by the ACDI MPC External Affairs Department and all of the officers of ACDI. The program and open forum were facilitated and led by the ACDI’s Executive Vice President for Operations, Ms. Juliet B. Saavedra, where valuable insights were gained as ACDI shared their cooperative history back in 1981. To share a brief background on ACDI, they are an institution-based cooperative consisting of members from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine National Police.

Similar to HPP Coop, ACDI’s core business is savings, lending, and investments. Their branching strategies served as a support for their membership expansion and were able to serve many uniformed personnel. Struggles during the pandemic were shared, and yet it is part of the growing phase. How does ACDI make an impact? They uplift, they always strive to make an impact to various communities anchored to their social development plans and initiatives. They believed that “youth are the future of the cooperative movement.” Therefore, they invested in and supported various programs. ACDI had shown great passion and excellence in serving their community, and HPP Coop is on its way to go beyond.

HPP Coop strives to make an impact on the communities as well. With HPP Coop’s commitment to the purpose of this movement, the cooperative continues to meet and satisfy the multidimensional needs of its members. And will continuously catch the great vision, accomplishing the mission and going beyond
the plans to be done, for the coop, for the members, and for its community.
